Cayman Art Week 2023 was a tremendous success, and Provenance Properties was proud to once again be a lead sponsor for this meaningful moment in the Cayman Islands' cultural calendar.
It was clear from the numbers in attendance that the arts are not just thriving in the Cayman Islands, but supported and loved by residents and visitors alike. From pop-up studios to gallery exhibitions, and book signings to modern street wear, what impressed us more than anything was the appreciation shown for the diversity and variety of artistic expression on show.
The week began with a lively launch party, hosted by Provenance Properties, on the evening of 30 May at Abacus in Camana Bay.
Said Ainjalia Muriu, our sales manager, during a speech she delivered at the event, “Cayman’s local art scene made quite an impact in its first and second year, and we are so excited and proud to be part of the third Cayman Art Week! As an exclusive affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, Provenance Properties is closely linked to Christie’s, the world’s oldest art auction house, which makes supporting a local art initiative such an honour.
"This is a viable local art market that gives artists a platform, connecting buyers and sellers. We recognise the value of making art accessible to all - facilitating an art market for the many, not for the few. That is why we are so proud to be a lead sponsor of this event.”
Some art lovers chose to download the convenient CAW Google Map provided on the site, so they could self-navigate to the more than 40 exhibits and events. Others hopped on one of the free district bus tours that conveyed them from one venue to the next.
“It was nice to chat to people and to get to see some of the studios that we had always meant to stop by, but never did because we were on our way to or from somewhere else,” said Liz Wyatt who was on the East End bus tour when it stopped at the Visual Arts Society Watler House Studio at Pedro St. James. “It was also really cool to see the variety of artworks happening in Cayman.”
Emerging artist Keri Elaine Lawrence, who was part of the exhibition at the Carlos V. Garcia Gallery at The Grove, said, “Being a part of Cayman Art Week for the first time as a young Caymanian artist was both exciting and an honour. Supporting local artists and preserving the culture of the Cayman Islands is important to me and CAW provides space for that.
"It brings me immense happiness to be able to practice my passion for others to enjoy and equally, it’s a privilege to interact with people who live for art as much as I do.”
